Open Source Program Offices (OSPO) are emerging in corporations, academics and governments, at a global level. As program offices begin to harness the strategic potential of open source, they are faced with obstacles in developing an open source culture, providing education throughout the company, and demonstrating the value of an OSPO. The CHAOSS and TODO projects are working together to identify how metrics can play an important role in helping demonstrate OSPO value within an organization. With the continually evolving technology landscape, the role of OPSOs remains critically important and this panel is meant to help OSPO members share that importance. Specifically, this panel will address challenges that lie in identifying meaningful metrics, how metrics can be understood in the context of OSPO work, and how such understanding can be effectively communicated throughout an organization to demonstrate OSPO value. In this talk we will share examples, tools, models, and use cases that will help get you started, so you too can better show the value of OSPOs and open source work.
