An essential part of Open Source community management is creating an environment where community members feel they belong by recognizing their achievements and contributions. Historically, the tech industry greatly valued technical skills, but there has been a growing recognition for non-code contributions. Project management, design, documentation, events planning & other non-technical skills are just as valuable as technical skills. In this session, attendees will hear about firsthand experiences creating programs like the Beyond Code Twitter series, documentation-focused hackathons, speaker mentoring workshops, and community badges. Attendees will leave with tips, best practices, and ideas for elevating non-technical conversations to help build more engagement & inclusivity in their communities.
