strace is still one of my most often used tools, every day! In the talk I will give live demos of very different use cases, to give you ideas how strace might help you in your daily tasks, too, without any need to instrument or modify your program(s) to be analyzed: - collect & analyze all file accesses: find paths of (missing?) config files and shared libraries - get full list of all executed processes with command line, environment etc., e.g. to analyze complex shell scripts or make/build environments - collect RT timing information, about process execution, file accesses or network traffic -- using this timing info you can reply load/access patterns you captured from real world testings/measurements.
