Networking needs have evolved with the cloud, and WireGuard, a new VPN protocol, is at the forefront of a new era in cloud networking. Hybrid cloud, multi cloud, and edge computing all require new patterns of networking. This talk will introduce attendees to the basics of WireGuard, its history, and how it is changing the cloud networking landscape.
We will begin by providing some background on VPN's and the traditional role they have played within organizations. Then, we will discuss the gradual decline in VPN's, in favor of new networking patterns like SD-WAN, SASE, and Zero Trust.
Finally, we will discuss the introduction of WireGuard, its integration into the Linux kernel, and the new networking patterns it enables that defy the traditional VPN pattern.
We will end by demonstrating some real-world use cases for WireGuard in the cloud, and by providing a closer look at how to introduce WireGuard into your organization.
Attendees will leave this talk with a solid understanding of WireGuard's capabilities, its pros and cons versus other patterns, and where WireGuard might fit into their own organizations' cloud environments.
