Open source has become critical to modern software development, and enterprises need to have a strategy for managing it effectively. This workshop will focus on building and managing an Open Source Program Office (OSPO) in the enterprise. We will start with an introduction to OSPOs and their importance in today's software landscape. We will then dive into OSS transformation, exploring how open source can transform an organization and the benefits it can provide. Organizational models are an essential component of an effective OSPO, and we will explore different models and their benefits and drawbacks. We will also cover staffing considerations, including roles and responsibilities, and how to build an effective team.Building and managing an OSPO comes with its unique challenges; we will discuss them in detail. We will then share recommended practices and strategies for addressing these challenges, including ways to promote open source adoption and foster a culture of collaboration.
Finally, we will conclude the workshop with a summary of key takeaways and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and discuss their experiences building and managing OSPOs in their organizations. By the end of this workshop, attendees will have a solid understanding of the criticality of open source, the importance of OSPOs, and the skills and tools needed to build and manage a successful OSPO in the enterprise.
