OSPOs often start and end with managing license and compliance risks. This focus makes them a gatekeeper and a naysayer to developers. To fully embrace the opportunities that Open Source engagement can provide, an OSPO needs to take it past risk management to opportunities for developers and organization. We will talk about how the Amazon and Volvo OSPOs go beyond compliance to create delightful experiences for builders. I will address seeking customer feedback, automating policy into the operations and encouraging innovation and learning for developers. Leadership and OSPO maturity comes with external engagement, sharing best practices, participating in shaping the future of open source. OSPOs have a critical role to play in how a company matures on its open source journey.
